Johanna Ralston (World Obesity Federation)

Profile

Johanna Ralston is currently CEO of the World Obesity Federation, and Executive in Residence and fellow at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. She has almost twenty years of experience in advocacy and non-communicable diseases, most recently as CEO of the World Heart Federation and chair of the NCD Alliance. She studied at Harvard and John Hopkins, and her work has since taken her round the world on a nearly weekly basis. Johanna is American and Swedish.

Claudia Carcia Moreno

Claudia Garcia-Moreno (WHO)

Profile

Claudia Garcia-Moreno is a physician from Mexico with a Masters (MSc) in community medicine from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She has worked extensively in public health and global health policy, with a focus on women's health, including sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS. She is currently in WHO’s Department of Reproductive Health and Research where she leads WHO’s work on violence against women. She coordinated the WHO Multi-Country Study on Women's Health and Domestic Violence, and the WHO global and regional estimates on violence against women, is a founder of, and chaired, the Sexual Violence Research Initiative and is a member of the FIGO Working Group on Gender-based Violence.

Sven Olov Carlsson SNIH Conference 2017

Sven Olov Carlsson (World Federation against Drugs)

Profile

Mr. Carlsson have occupied important positions in both the private and government sector. He started his career as a Municipal Chief Executive and worked for 20 years in this field. Between 1995-2009 he was the President of IOGT-NTO in Sweden, later on he became the International President of IOGT International, a worldwide community of NGOs working in the field of alcohol and drug policy and prevention. In 2009 he was elected the International President of World Federation Against Drugs. Furthermore, he is member of the Board of Eurocare – the European Alcohol Policy Alliance, Global Alcohol Policy Alliance (GAPA) and International Council on Alcohol and Addictions (ICAA).

Hovsep Mahdessian (Bayer)

Profile

Hovsep obtained his PhD at Karolinska Instititet (KI) within Cardio-Metabolic diseases in 2014 and followed it by two Postdoc years at KI. He holds a Master’s in Engineering from KTH in Biotechnology. In August 2016, he transitioned into a role outside of Academia and joined the Nordic team at Miltenyi Biotec as Account Manager for the company’s Research portfolio. In January this year, Hovsep started, and currently holds, a position as Scientific Advisor/Medical Science Liaison at Bayer in Scandinavia within the Cardiovascular therapy area, and in parallel holds academic affiliation to KI.

Nawi Ng (Umeå University)

Profile

Dr. Nawi Ng is a Professor of Epidemiology and Global Health at Umeå University. His research focuses on the intersection between the emergence of chronic diseases and population ageing, and how disability among older people impacts their paths to healthy ageing in Sweden and low- and middle-income countries in Africa and Asia. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Global Health Action.

Greg Martin

Profile

Dr Greg Martin is a medical doctor from South Africa who has worked as a Technical Officer at the World Health Organisation, the Head of Science and Research at the World Cancer Research Fund and the Director of Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV at the Clinton Health Access Initiative. He is currently Specialist Registra in Public Health Medicine in Dublin, Ireland and the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Globalization and Health. He also hosts a Global Health YouTube channel that provides teaching and career advice for people interested in Global Health (www.youtube.com/c/drgregmartin)

Dr. Målqvist is Senior Lecturer and the Course Director of the Global Health Programme at Uppsala University. The main focus of his research has been on the implementation of interventions for improved maternal and child health in low and middle-income settings.

Teija Korhonen

Profile

Teija Korhonen is a veterinarian and a graduate of the European Programme for Intervention Epidemiology Training (EPIET). Teija is Finnish, and before starting the EPIET training in 2011, she worked in Finland in multiple sectors of the veterinary profession as well as in the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). After graduating EPIET she worked at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) as an interim junior scientific expert for over three and a half years supporting response activities at the EU level for food- and waterborne diseases, travel-associated Legionnaires’ disease, Ebola and Zika virus disease. In addition, in spring 2015 she participated in the WHO/GOARN Ebola response mission in Guinea.
